yep.

(so much potential for epic greatness wasted on shock value! also I would be totally behind this storyline, heroes vs. government, if Nathan was not leading it. because I dislike that. But I enjoyed it when it wasn't frustrating???)

*Persona 4, however, a fine video game available for your PS2, is highly recommended for anyone else who needs a distraction and is amused by the idea of Japanese teenagers fighting their personal inner demons inside televisions. Literally inside televisions. Here, this is it's badass pop-art-esque opening sequence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h73LvR8V2LA&feature=related

Also I am taking a class on Japanese Pop Culture this semester and I'm writing a paper on the aesthetics of identity in Japanese RPGs, so this totally almost counts as homework.

I have a deep and sincere feeling I am going to be unhappy with tonight's Heroes, and that my time would be better spent playing more Persona 4 and making the Protagonist join a basket weaving club or something.

Or reading Great Expectations for class. (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

And yet.

More in an hour.

OH re: avatar casting, I have pretty much given up hope for a decent live-action Zuko, and the casting process continues to be horribly mismanaged and disturbing

RE: Gossip Girl

Nate, for banging somebody's mom and somebody's jailbait sister in the same season, you might just get to be my favorite.

This show continues to be shamefully/delightfully scandalicious.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, HEROES. I AM BREAKING UP WITH YOU.

RE: HEROES - HAMSTERS DANCING ON A TYPEWRITER COULD COME UP WITH A MORE COHERENT NARRATIVE. ARGH.

that shark has been jumped, and in the thorough final fantasy video game move sense where 'jump' means the character disappears for one turn and then falls back down like the avenging fist of an angry god and STABS YOU IN THE EYE

an aside: ...HOLY 18th CENTURY NOVEL, BATMAN, a Robinson Crusoe tv series I am so there. I hope there are lots of run-on sentences and comments about money being of the devil!!!! And also cats and goats. But I am not getting my hopes up.

AVATAR IS THE MOST EPIC THING TO HAVE EVER EPIC...ed. WATCH IT, WATCH IT NOW. I feel fulfilled as a person after that finale.

In other news! I am in California to enjoy the sun, surf and anime conventions, and also to worry about grad school applications and, like, the lit gre, which is forcing me to read paradise lost a second time, curse it to the heavens (ahaha). :)

Things I Never Knew I Wanted, May 13th 2008, Thank You Very Much, Interview With A Vampire:

a) Tom Cruise as a crazy-ass blond vampire.

b) Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas practically making out. AS VAMPIRES.

WHO CAST THIS FILM????

Also, how on Earth did I manage to go so many wasted years without seeing it? It is completely wretched in all of the ways that I like best.

In other media news: Speed Racer is A++++ THUMBS UP AWESOME, and I have been watching way too much Gossip Girl.

I just caught up on Bleach (Ch 305, I think, yikes), and will now proceed to have nightmares about Mayuri for a week! Gah.

Also, RE: Byakuya, I really enjoy that he has decided to be an arrogant jerk on his own damn terms, ie, because he is an arrogant jerk, not because a proper shinigami acts like an arrogant jerk blah blah blah etc. Also he is sexy.

RE: VIDEO GAMES, ALWAYS A WORTHWHILE PASTIME
I was browsing through the used bookstore for fun this afternoon (it's very soothing!) and found a copy of Vagrant Story, which I have wanted to play for ages, and since my birthday is this week, I had an excuse to buy it. And, I love it so much. It's gorgeous even with ten-year-old graphics, very atmospheric, very well directed and it has an amazing soundtrack. The main villain's theme song makes my skin crawl - very appropriate, considering he is hella creepy. And I like the hero, so far, even if he does seem to have compensated for the murder of his wife and child by wearing pants with creative holes in the back. You have to hand it to a tall, muscular dude with antennae hair who can pull off backless pants while mowing down zombies with a sword. That's hardcore.

In other news: finals! ahahaha. erk.

+ IT'S HALLOWEEN! Totally ran out of candy, which I didn't expect, and which makes me kind of sad because now I am hungry and want a Reese's. :( On the other hand, I made tiny children happy!

+ and then I fell asleep watching Transformers downstairs - which is pretty pathetic, really, how hard is it to stay awake during epic robot battle???

+ I did however wear a hat with ears to class today! There was a severe lack of Halloween spirit in general on campus!! Except for about half of my last class, who skipped out to get drunk early, apparently.

+ I've spent the last week either writing papers or watching children's cartoons, guess which one was more fun!

--> on that note, I have a new favorite animal. It is called a KoalaSheep. Observe:

--> PS, watch Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickolodean. It is way more badass than any kid's cartoon has any real right to be. Also I am weak to storylines that features a merry band of renegade teenagers out to kick butt and save the world, while still having time for retarded romance and kooky animals and in that one very special episode, hippies. Siriusly.

+ Heroes: Mohinder is the worst spy ever. Matt is being an ass. Claire is being unbelieveably retarded. What happened to awesome fighty Claire from the end of last season? Also she needs to ditch that West dude so fast. I have a hard time not hissing whenever he shows up. Mr. Bennet is still scary as all get out! Sylar is still evil. Peter needs to go back to being a fluffy emo puppy, I liked him better then. I kind of grudgingly don't mind his new girlfriend, though. Veronica Mars was really out of place? Anyway. I'm still waiting for the plot to pick up speed.

+ I've actually missed the last two episodes of Supernatural, sigh.

+ Pushing Daisies continues to be tooth-rottingly sweet and adorable. Me likey.

+ Moonlight continues to be so bad it is AWESOME. I mean. It does everything you shouldn't do when making a show about vampires and is so campy... But I love it. This says a lot about me as a person, possibly?

+ Going to Italy over spring break and am impossibly excited!!!! Aside from considering the cost, which makes me sob. But. Food and Ancient Romans and Art and History - so many of my favorite things. :) :) :)

Pushing Daisies SOCUTE. I am in love with the writing on that show. And the pie. But that goes without saying.

Anyway. Dinner and homework noooow but!

I just wanted to say that Monday's Heroes episode - unremarkable for the most part - Sylar/Lost crossover, anyone? I would really like to see Sylar vs. Benry. Although it would be terrifying, it would also be awesome: terrifyingly awesome, possibly.

Also my roomies have discovered my habit of talking to TV characters when I watch stuff by myself. "You're watching TV? ...we thought you were on the phone." I can't help it! Also I give them affectionate nicknames and warn them not to do bad things! They rarely listen to me. :(

PS: Greek is evil. It is CONSPIRING AGAINST ME. Noun endings are too much like math.

HEROES ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ !!!!!! (Lost better watch out, I think I might have a new TV-show boyfriend~)

Speaking of. I nearly had a Real Live Boyfriend last week but then he had to go and be a dumbass, so no. :( This makes Jessica said. And also aware that she has freakishly high standards and will just have to keep waiting for Mr. Right. Who had better not lie to her, dammitGacktit.

That reminds me - I have embarked upon a campaign to replace all my swear words with 'Gackt' - for the un-hip-to-Japanese-pop-culture among you, Gackt is an infamous pretty-boy singer. And he is getting his J-rock-ness all up in my Final Fantasy. DO NOT WANT. :( Anyway it is a long story.

I will elaborate on Heroes after I've gotten some sleep. It was an awesome episode, but I survived today only by drinking a truly insane amount of bottled frappechinos and fantasizing that Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver both got EATEN BY SHARKS instead of rescued and therefore had no real contribution to the 18th century's consideration of the human condition other than, We Are Apparently Very Tasty With Some Kelp and Ketchup.

Also, I've been rereading bits of the Iliad to study for my test, but I keep getting distracted from the bit-players who I actually need to review because I love Hector so very, very much.

***One day I really do intend to start a blog or webcomic or write a book explaining Greek myths through emoticons, stick figures and possibly My Little Ponies. Just for kicks. What little girl or boy wouldn't want an Achilles Pony of their very own??? It has a hugely detailed picture of a shield covered in epic scenes carved by Hephaestus on its butt, and goes into homicidal rages and disrespects your corpse at the push of a button!

I NEED TO STOP TALKING NOW.

♥ G'night

It has been a magnificent summer of absolutely zero real productivity, but at long last I am back at school, and swamped with language homework, probably as some sort of karma for being horribly lazy for the last three months. :) Greek and Latin hoorah! Also some English classes but nothing very exciting. In Latin we're reading the Pro Caelio which is A++, even though it eats spare time like crazy.

Anyway, I thought I would bombard y'all with pictures from this summer, because I really doubt my ability to write a coherent summary that doesn't involve waaaay too many exclamation marks and random capslock. As much as I aspire to be eloquent and pithy at all times, it takes too much energy to maintain so I usually revert to being an excitable dork within 1.5 sentences.

Basically, I spent the summer... )

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (arr, there be spoilers in these waters!) )

In other media news! I highly recommend the following TV series:

-Doctor Who (new series)
I started watched last weekend and ended up mainlining nearly three complete seasons. It is corny and fabulous and very British. There are aliens!! And time travel! Shakespeare! ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I love this show, it is hilarious and campy and well, aliens!

-Robin Hood (also new BBC series!)
I lovelovelove this show. I watched about 8 episodes in one day this week. It has awesome dialog, great scenery, hilarious anachronisms - such as Robin's hoodie, Robin is both adorable and hot and tricksy and has good intentions, Marian is badass and cool and also quite tricksy herself, the Sheriff is completely crazy, and his henchman is brooding mystery man with political subtext its all quite lovely.

-and I'll toss out Supernatural again, because I've been watching my DVDs -> ghost hunting, sarcastic banter, DEAN AND SAM ARE AMAZING. Really just watch it, even if horror stuff isn't your thing - it certainly isn't mine, but I love this show to bits.

-OH AND LOST, I have mixed feelings about the season finale but I am definately still hooked! The little trick at the end with Surprise! It Is The Future! was a great twist. Kind of peeved about Charlie, but it wasn't like it was a shock. Oh, I did like Sayid breaking that guy's neck with his feet though, that was hardcore.

FREEDOM SWEET FREEDOM

...

I think that'll do it! I'd say more but it would probably just be a jumble of lines from the Aeneid IT IS PALLAS WHO TAKES REVENGE FROM YOUR SHAMELESS BLOOD like that and um, Chaucer and a sort of scratchy sketch of a black cat and an essay on slavery in a) ancient rome RE: donkey and b) 19th century America ...I kept wanting to mix them up during the respective finals they were on. It was disconcerting. Basically, imagine Frederick Douglass as a donkey. Yeah.

I often think to myself, gosh, self, I wish you could be a bit more eloquent sometimes! But now is not one of those times. Well it is. But it isn't one of those times I'm actually awake enough to attempt to be more eloquent, so I'll just babble some more.

Other Notes From The Study Cage:

-St Jerome really needs to get a) slapped b) laid, but he's going to have issues with that second one unless he likes dudes, because really! jerk. (also he is dead but BESIDE THE POINT) what is with the girl-hate, Mr. Saint! :( I am saddened.
---> if this sounds weird just be glad you didn't witness my post-Chaucer-final high yesterday I kept getting giggly about the the Merchant's tale and... yeah. Three different versions of Clerk's Tale story CURSE YOU PETRARCH.
-CATULLUS IS THE MAN
-Ovid gets a thumbs-up too. "How to pick up chicks at the Circus Maximus: make up stuff about famous people and pretend you know them! She will be IMPRESSED."
-Tibullus gets a mention too, because when I was looking over my notes all I could find on elegy 2.4 was 'slave 4 u' and a confused emoticon --> :/
-Oh and Propertius compares sex to the Iliad. I think that's funny.
-Edgar Allen Poe is just kind of a given, even though I will forever be haunted by The Black Cat
-If I see anything related to the Anglo-Irish War ever again I just might scream. And faint. It will be unpleasant.

-->me-->easily amused!

Other than that, I've just been bumming around with my video games and a lot of Trader Joe's gelato that is VERY UNHEALTHY but also tasty, and packing! I have to move out on Sunday and Amanda's already gone, so the apartment is very lonely right now.

Attention Scottsdale Gang: IS ANYONE GOING TO BE HOME SOON or will everyone be off traveling the world? Cause if you are going to be home we should hang. :)

PS: GREAT ICON OR GREATEST ICON??
